An apron is the only garment here you buy several of on purpose. The Food Code asks a food employee to wear clean outer clothing, and in a working kitchen that is settled at the apron rather than at the coat: the apron takes the splash, comes off, and is replaced mid-service if it has to be. Pick the shape by the station. A full bib covers from the collarbone down for a line or a butchery bench; a short bib stops at the hip and carries a three-section pocket for a probe, a pen and a docket; a waist apron ties over anything and belongs behind a bar; a cobbler pulls over the head and covers front and back for prep and housekeeping.

Headwear is the cheapest line on the sheet and the first thing an inspector looks for. The pleated chef hat is the visible one, adjusting at the back with hook-and-loop so a single hat covers a shared shift; the skull cap sits close and is sized medium and large, which is what people working under an extraction hood tend to prefer. The neckerchief is a 40 by 20 inch square in an 80/20 poly-cotton that started as a sweat rag and now mostly earns its keep on a floor where the uniform is seen.

Questions about Chef Designs Aprons and Hats

The layer that gets changed

How many Chef Designs aprons should a kitchen keep per cook?

Three or four against a laundry cycle is what most kitchens settle on, because an apron is meant to be changed rather than worn through a service. It is the cheapest way to keep the coat under it clean.

Which Chef Designs apron has pockets?

The premium short bib carries a three-section pocket across the front, wide enough to separate a probe, a pen and a docket, and the waist apron and cobbler carry pockets as well. The full bib is deliberately plain: a pocket at chest height on a line apron fills with what you are cooking.

Do Chef Designs hats fit everyone?

The pleated chef hat adjusts at the back with hook-and-loop and covers the range in one size; the skull cap comes in medium and large because it sits close to the head rather than standing away from it.
