01The half nobody photographs
A cook pant sold waist by length from 28x30 to 54x34 with a side elastic waist and four pockets, and a baggy chef pant on a full elastic waist with a drawstring, in white, black and the black-and-white check.

Two pants, and the waist is what separates them. The cook pant has a side elastic waistband and no button at the front, which is a safety decision as much as a comfort one: there is nothing to catch on a rack handle and nothing to dig in when you bend into a low oven. It is sold in waist and inseam, so you buy the pair rather than a letter, and it carries two slack-style front pockets and two patch pockets at the hip. The baggy chef pant is the traditional one: full elastic waist, drawstring, cut wide through the thigh so heat moves, two side-seam pockets and one patch pocket at the back, sized in letters from XS to 3XL. The check on both is not decoration. It is the oldest camouflage in the trade, and a splash of stock reads as pattern on it at two paces rather than as a stain.

Prices are the figures from our last update; the Chef Designs eye updates them on a schedule, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.
03Before you order
Waist by length against letters, why there is no button at the front, and what the check is actually for.
Because a button is one more thing to catch on a rack handle and one more thing to dig in when you bend into a low oven. The waist is elastic at the sides instead, which holds the pant where you set it and lets the front lie flat under an apron.
Waist by inseam, from 28x30 up to 54x34. Lay a pair you already work in flat, measure the waistband end to end and double it, then take the inside leg from the crotch seam to the hem; that pair of numbers is the code on the card, so nothing is left to a letter.
It is the oldest camouflage in the trade. A splash of stock or a smear of flour reads as pattern on a black-and-white check at two paces and reads as a stain on plain black, which is why the check has outlived every attempt to retire it.
Every closure, every run
Every coat, shirt, pant, apron and hat in the Chef Designs uniform range sits behind this button, with the price from our last update against each one.
